A revitalized historic home.

This 1880’s solid stone homestead sits outside Manhattan overlooking a bend in the Kansas River. What is more remarkable is that it’s been in the same family for 3 generations! When the most recent owners decided to retire, and occupy the home, it required some much-needed updates.  They also had a strong desire to preserve its character for another 120+ years, and add a space that captured the beautiful view over a field to the river.

With Timber & Stone’s help, they completely reconfigured the floor plan, created a vaulted kitchen, and a hearth room overlooking the field and beyond the river. A screen porch flanks this space and captures the same view along with cool breezes. The home required significant attention to restoring its original masonry, new windows, roof and systems, as well as structural work. However, it has proven that this structure built 30 years before the first cars were seen in Manhattan can still make a wonderful home.
